Boosting

promoting a post

Boosting means paying to amplify an organic social post so it reaches beyond your own followers. It is advertising’s light version: a button on the post, a budget and a couple of targeting choices.

Good to know

Boosting suits amplifying a proven post: when content has already worked organically, the paid push multiplies what works. The tool is stripped down though: objectives, targeting and optimisation are a fraction of what the ads manager offers.

As a rule of thumb, boosting is a tactical extra and the ads manager the strategic tool: sales objectives, conversion optimisation and proper measurement need a real campaign. If you boost hundreds of euros a month, the same money produces more in the ads manager. A practical split many Finnish SMEs use: boost community content, run everything sales-related as campaigns.

IN PRACTICE

When boosting is enough

A proven post

Content that took off organically gets boosted to collect the rest of the audience. The data is already on your side.

A local event or announcement

Fast visibility in a limited area without campaign structure. Tens of euros reach thousands.

Recruitment and employer brand

An open role or a team introduction spreads beyond the follower bubble on a light budget.

PITFALLS

Two boosting mistakes

Everything boosted evenly

Sprinkling a tenner on every post lifts nothing properly. Concentrate the same money on the best performers.

A sales goal on the boost button

Boosting optimises impressions and reactions, not sales. Conversion goals need an ads manager campaign and a pixel.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between boosting and a campaign?+

Boosting amplifies an existing post with narrow settings. A campaign is built in the ads manager with objectives, audiences and measurement.

How much should I put into a boost?+

For a test, 20–50 € per post over a few days. If your boost budget passes a couple of hundred a month, move the work into the ads manager.

Which post is worth boosting?+

The one already working organically: good engagement predicts a wider audience will react the same. Money does not save a weak post.

Why did a boosted post bring no sales?+

Because boosting optimises attention, not purchases. Without a conversion goal and tracking, the platform finds reactors, not buyers.

Does a boost show to followers or new people?+

Either, by your choice. When chasing new people, set the targeting to your audience rather than leaving the defaults.
